A project of Körber Resonanz Lab
Written for sensational vocalist and bağlama (a long-necked lute) player Derya Yıldırım and performed by a crew of virtuosic musicians across bağlama, strings, duduk, hand drums and drum kit.
A stage full of the sounds of Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Greece. Tunes passed on by centuries of mouths and ears — tunes that have been twisted, warped, fondly echoed and deftly weaved to shape nine utterly new, modern pieces. A song cycle, brought to you by Hamburg’s Ensemble Resonanz.
10 composers have written their own versions of Turkish, Anatolian, Kurdish and Greek songs as well as compositions inspired of Derya's voice, the Baglama and the ensemble. A new 80-minute song cycle that crosses borders and combines old folk songs with new compositions and pop-cultural settings.
The project »Derya's Songbook« is designed to address new audiences and communities. The process has been intensely documented and there is a broad range of digital footage, films and snippets for you to use.
